Now what about some sneak peak inside the new release?

ControlUp Insights

I’ve spent tons of time in my lab recently on my brand new SuperServer doing performance testing with LoginVSI.

My old lab was limited to 32GB of memory, but with the SuperServer I’ve got 128GB running on the worlds fastest consumer SSDs (Intel 750 and Samsung 950 Pro).

Today I run 2 VM’s with 4vCPU and 16GB with Windows 2012R2 and Citrix XenApp 7.6 FP3.

LoginVSI in Benchmark mode gives me VSIMax of 48 Knowledge Users using Office 2010. This is pretty awesome for the little beast consuming only 40 – 100 watts.

Needless to say, with this kind of power I get a lot more performance details inside the upcoming Controlup Insights compared to launching a couple of ICA sessions on my old hardware.

When I checked the Logon Duration I noticed it was quit high, because LoginVSI uses locale profiles. You can see that the logon average was 25 seconds compared to the community baseline of 16 seconds.

This made me thinking about the black screen bug in Citrix VDA 7.6, so instead of installing the hotfix I went straight to Citrix VDA 7.6.300 (Feature Pack 3).

BOOM! As you can see the Logon Duration dropped to 6 seconds!

By using ControlUp during my LoginVSI tests I get live performance information straight in the console and ControlUp Insights gives me Historical Reporting.

Another great feature of the new version is the redesigned Script Based Actions (SBA) output window. It now matches the classic PowerShell look-and-feel and also improves the usability of script output comparison.

I’ve been working close with PowerShell guru Zeev Eisenberg from ControlUp creating an SBA that lists what Recommended Microsoft Hotfixes are installed.
