Remote Desktop Manager – The Best Applications

Microsoft recently released a free Remote Desktop Manager called Remote Desktop Connection Manager. I’m not going to cover this application in details here, because Mick Huxley have already posted a great Remote Desktop Manager article on his blog.

I would also highly recommend the article Dynamic Remote Desktop Connection Manager connection list. This is a super cool PowerShell script that make sure your connection list is always up to date.

If you’re like me you’re probably daily using Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection for RDP, but wouldn’t you love to have something similar for Citrix ICA? Well those days are over thanks to tekHelix’s xConnect.

So here’s what I want you to do now :

  • In the comments below, please tell me what’s your favorite Remote Desktop Manager
  • If this post scratched where it itches, please share it via the retweet button

  1. First, I wanted to say thank you for the eBook. I went to Staples and had it bound so I could keep it on-hand as a reference guide.

As for a Remote Desktop Manager I’ve used Royal TS for years. There was at one point talk about multi-protocol support RDP and ICA. Having a good manager is essential when managing multi customer sites.

    • @Todd : It’s a great idea to print out the eBook, much easier to do the workshop this way.

@Krumov : Glad you found the blog interesting and useful

      @Akshay & @Jason : I will need to check out VisionApp 2010

  2. I don’t know how I found your xenappblog, but I can tell you that this is very nice and very user-friendly internet destination. There are several interesting posts here which brings me several times to come back again. I am 100% Microsoft fan. I use Microsoft’s RDP client. Thanks for the xConnect !!!

  3. Thank you for pointing out the xConnect client. I’m a pretty satisfied user of Devolutions Remote Desktop Manager (free version). Excellent for managing lots of server connections; you can use templates for default RDP settings or you have access to a great many settings for each server connection.

    • Hi Scott, the xConnect client is very cool and much easier to use. I forgot to tell that is also portable, no installation required.

  4. Have been using Vision App Remote Desktop 2010 for a few months now and is excellent and includes ICA. only downside is the free version restricts you to a limited number of connections.

  5. I use vRD (VisionApp 2010), probably the best RDP / ICA manager on the market today as far as features go…

  7. @Trond : Absolutely it would make your workshops a lot easier to follow. I don’t know if they have a Staples in Norway. However, I printed the eBook in color and double sided while at work. Then took it to Staples and paid $2.00 US for a spiral, clear cover bind. Took them less than five minutes.

  8. Hi,
I’m not used to do some free advert, but I use Remote Desktop Manager from http://devolutions.net/ which is an incredible application. Most features are present in the free version, and support for nearly every remote application protocol.

  9. I would recommend browser-based remote desktop applications.(gotoassist, logmein, bomgar, techinline) I’m using this software to provide faster and better communication between our offices which are placed in different cities. That simples our work process and helps us to save money.
We are working with Techinline at the moment and no cons detected yet.

I wonder if anyone know about an application that gives you an option to divert sms from the main board to clients mobiles?

    thanks

  11. Trond, I noticed that the tekhelix website has been down and I’d like to get my hands on that xconnect application. Any chance you have that available for download to pass around? Thanks!

  12. Remote Desktop Manager is good. Additionally, you may also have a look at R-HUB remote support servers. It is an on premise solution that works from behind your companys firewall.
